Wie alles begann. Bruckners Visionen

Exhibition opening weekend in St. Florian Abbey on 4/5th of May.

When you think of Anton Bruckner, you think of his masses and symphonies from the second half of his life. The Augustinian Canons’ Monastery of St. Florian was of crucial importance for his long personal and artistic development leading up to these top achievements. He spent a total of 13 formative years, first as a choir boy, later as a teacher and monastery organist, in an environment that was characterized by an enlightened Catholicism that was open to science and social life. There, in a worldly place, the young village teacher’s son tenaciously and also conflictually searched for his identity as an artist.

The monastery’s archive contains a large number of documents that shed light on this crucial phase of life with all its opportunities and risks. They are now being shown comprehensively for the first time in an exhibition that we had the honor to design.
